I designed and released my very first version of Poppies for You pattern back in 2009. Initially designed as a stitching or project bag, it quickly grew to be so much more. It was loved by so many, making and using it as a perfect nappy bag, camera bag, shopping bag... the ideas were endless.

Fast forward to 2026, where I have remade and relaunched my Poppies for You bag pattern, in two sizes. The 6 pocket and 8 pocket bag versions. With the rise in popularity of project bags, and also analogue bags, the uses for a Poppies for You bag are endless.

Make one in your favourite fabric range, add the appliqué or strip it right back and make the complete bag in just one or two fabrics. Fill the pockets with your latest projects, take it to class, use as a nappy bag, and so much more.

Be warned, I don’t think you will be able stop at just one. Poppies for You bags are just so much fun to make and super useful too. Happy bag making.

This pattern contains the full instructions to make both the 6 Pocket and 8 Pocket Poppies for You Bags - with options to complete needle turn appliqué, blanket stitch appliqué, ric-rac edging or binding to finish. You could say it’s almost a choose your own adventure pattern. If you are a visual learner, there are lots and lots of diagrams as well as detailed step by step instructions. Mabel Annie was my Grandmother. She was born in the very late 1800’s, arriving in Australia with her family in her early teens, all the way from Wales in the United Kingdom. I am told she was also a milliner. To me, she was firm but kind and she had the softest hands. I just loved to hold her hand when I was a little girl.

When choosing a name for this quilt, I wanted to not only honour my Grandmother and the creative abilities that she has passed onto me, I also wanted to capture the vintage feel and timeless nature that is this quilt. I wanted to design a quilt that could be both timeless or modern, depending on the fabrics used. Having people ask, is this a vintage quilt?

Included in this pattern are three sizes to make Mabel Annie - lap quilt, throw quilt and twin bed sizes. Also included in a bonus page at the very end, giving you measurements for a smaller Mabel Annie bow block should you wish to use it for smaller projects. When I first started designing and selling my quilt patterns back in 1999, two of my biggest supporters were my parents. For many years to follow, with each new pattern release, my parents would stand side by side and fold and package my paper patterns, ensuring I had all that I needed for the shops and craft fairs where my patterns were sold.

My parents were an integral part of my business for many years. Whilst things are no longer the same, having lost my dear old Dad several years ago at age 90, my memories of his help throughout the years remain. My Dad always wore a plaid shirt in his retirement years, so when it came to designing this quilt, I knew that I wanted to honour my Dad and design my own plaid quilt. Carter being one of my father’s names, I introduce to you the Carter Plaid quilt. My very own take on a plaid quilt that is fun and fresh. I absolutely love it and I hope you will too.

Suzie Quilt is a remake of my 2009 design called Suzie’s Sweet Shoppe. Featuring one of my favourite blocks, the Sawtooth Star, Suzie Quilt looks amazing made in any fabric combination, from a favourite range to scrappy. Both the Small throw and Large Throw / Twin sizes are included in this pattern. I am sure you won’t be able to stop at making just one.

Whenever I think of rainbow coloured quilts with black and white stripe binding, my mind immediately goes to my good friend and amazing quilt designer, Emma of Emma Jean Jansen. Emma and I became friends at least 15 years ago when Emma sold my patterns through her store, Ballarat Patchwork. I was so very honoured when Emma named a quilt after me in her Book ‘By the Bundle’, called Nellie Grey and I knew that one day I wanted to name a quilt after her too. Fast forward to 2024 when I was designing my very own quilt with cross blocks. I immediately knew that this quilt needed to be made in rainbow colours and was going to be called Emma Jean.
